Caritas Central Intake
Caritas Central Intake, centrally located in Chicago at 140 N. Ashland, is the longest continually operating central intake in the United States that addresses the problems of substance abusers.
Central Intake was started in 1968 as a joint project of the State of Illinois Department of Mental Health and the University of Chicago Department of Psychiatry. Caritas (formerly Interventions) has operated Central Intake since 1976 and was the first comprehensive community-based multi-modality organization to respond to the early years of widespread drug use in Chicago.
Central Intake is well known as the place to call to get into treatment for substance use problems. On any given day 40 to 60 individuals of diverse age and cultural background receive a variety of services associated with entering the Illinois State funded treatment system. Central Intake has linkage agreements with over 70 agencies where clients are referred for treatment for their substance use disorders.
Caritas Central Intake provides Comprehensive medical assessments and laboratory test at no cost to clients or other state licensed substance abuse treatment facilities.

Our clinical staff is responsible for completing substance abuse clinical assessments; all are certified counselors through the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association
